Our team consistently reviews, develops, and refines LFPA Alta Mesa’s school improvement goals. We are always thriving to prepare every student to be college and career ready. Our school improvement plan is aimed at measurable goals that will help raise student achievement. We have implemented several strategies for students that will help to attain these goals for our students and our school.

It is a requirement for every student to create a SMART goal. Every student will have one personalized academic goal that will be Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Timely. We ask that parents take time to discuss the goal their child creates, and make SMART goals a regular part of discussion in your household. Ask your student the following questions:

How did you identify your goal?

How are you tracking your goal?

How will you know when you have achieved your goal?

Where are you currently at in reaching your goal?

Are you keeping up with your action plan?

A second strategy is introducing students to the Recall note taking method. Recall notes are similar to Cornell notes, but easier for school aged children. We have found that most of our students don’t understand the purpose of note taking nor do they understand how to properly study notes. We utilize Recall Notes school-wide. Every student in every grade will use only Recall Notes for any type of note taking. Information describing Recall Notes along with a sample note page is sent home with every student. This will help parents in assisting students with studying at home.

Parental assistance plays a huge role in student success. Thank you for your on going support as we create new and innovative ways to help our students achieve success.

Taking part in our “Reach-Out Volunteer Program” LFPA elementary students visited the Citadel Nursing Home on two occasions r as part of their involvement in the community volunteer program.

LFPA has committed to each student’s success by creating an atmosphere where students can learn in a safe environment that is free of discrimination, violence and bullying. There is no excuse to tolerate or accept poor behavior.

Our school has an on-going anti-bullying program and school staff work daily on setting the stage for students to have meaningful involvement and take pledges to be bully free; as well as building lessons on character and anti-bullying into our current curriculum.

Parents and students have an equally important role to play in helping to prevent bullying at our school. Parents are the first and most important contribution in teaching children the importance of respect for others and valuing integrity. We ask that each parent take the time to address the issue of bullying with your child at home and the lifetime negative impact that can result from being a victim of bullying.

Bullying will not be tolerated from LFPA students in any form. Students found guilty of bullying will have firm consequences that could result in expulsion.

Dear Ms. Taylor, Executive Director:

As you  know by now, Arizona was cited by Education Cities  as a state that is leading the nation in closing our achievement gap, and we have attached our press release about that report at the end of this letter.

To your great credit, Learning Foundation Stapley and Learning Foundation And Performing Arts Alta Mesa have been identified as top performers in the state, and somewhere that low-wealth students can expect the same excellent quality of education that their wealthier peers receive.

What an amazing achievement for your students and school community, and we want to thank you and congratulate you! Please pass on our congratulations to your team.

We are critically aware that Arizona is nowhere near our goal of offering every child in the state an excellent education that prepares them for their life choices after high school. But in your school, and in dozens of schools like yours around the state, we see that this is possible. Arizona is being recognized because you and your team decided to make this a reality.

Dear Knights Families,

Learning Foundation and Performing Arts Alta Mesa welcomes you and your child to the 2016- 2017 school year. This year brings so many exciting learning opportunities to all of our students. We are exceptionally excited for all of our Knights families and kindergarten students who have joined our LFPA family this year. We are proud of the  solid foundation and connections we build with new and continuing families.

The dynamics of our school  changed beginning last year when we changed from a K-12 school to a K-8 school.  This change allowed us the opportunity to build on our existing strengths and place more focus on our students foundational years. Our school is now comprised of approximately 250 students in grades Kinder – 8th, all of whom are amazing children with unique strengths and talents. As a school family that respects diversity in our learning community, we offer a variety of academic and performing arts opportunities that allows our experienced staff to work closely with your child.  Our school has a collaborative spirit and encourages family involvement. Our learning environment embraces the whole student, and we take pride in creating lifelong learners!

We strive to keep parents and guardians updated with important dates and information. If you have not provided a current e-mail address to our front office, please do so right away. Many of our announcements and school information is sent electronically because we believe in supporting our environment.

If you have a question or good idea, please share by calling our front office at 480-807-1100. If we have not formally met, please take time to stop by my office, say hello, and introduce yourself. We encourage parents to take an active role in their child’s education. We invite you to visit often, join our volunteer program, and attend all school events. ***IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT LFPA SCHOOLS***

At LFPA schools we value our parents as working partners. In order to have successful school/home partnerships we feel it is important for parents to be knowledgeable about the many components that are involved in the education of our students. We ask that you take a moment to read over the following important points and contact your school or the district if there are any topics you would like more information on.

1. Are you aware of your schools mission and vision? If you are unsure of the school’s purpose we encourage you to read the mission and vision statements posted at the school, on the website and in the student handbook. We are proud of being devoted to what we do, and hope that you share in our pride by helping your student(s) to be aware of and understand the goals of their school. We hope that you will talk to your children regularly about our mission and vision.

2. Are you aware of our School Improvement Plan and ongoing efforts to improve the quality of education your child receives? The School Improvement Plan is an on going process. We hold quarterly School Improvement meetings to address and revisit school goals. The schools continually review and revise strategies and improvement actions as part of our school improvement process. We encourage you to join us at School Improvement meetings and we value your input as stakeholders.

3. Are you aware of support services offered at your school? We are proud to offer multiple support services at our schools. We have an excellent special education team to address the needs of students with disabilities. We also offer Title One support services and tutoring to academically at-risk students. We also offer Acuity At Home to all students. This online student portal allows students to focus on specific educational needs. Acuity tailors the individual needs of all students by identifying strengths and weaknesses. This allows students to focus on academic gaps, as well as, be challenged with academic strengths.

4. Are you aware of our school’s governing board? At LFPA we have a governing board that helps with all important school decisions. The governing board oversees all operations. This includes school policy, school budgets, curriculum, etc. Governing board meeting notices are always posted on our front door at least 48 hours before meetings and on our website.

5. Are you aware of what goes on in your child’s classroom and how to communicate regularly with teachers? Our teachers are required to post class objectives in visible areas of the classroom. You are welcome to visit your child’s class and view the objective board any time. Feel free to ask teachers questions about your child’s specific learning needs, curriculum, etc. Parents may always reach teachers by direct phone calls or email. Responses to questions, comments, or concerns will always be addressed within 24 business hours.

6. Are you aware you should be talking with your student regularly about what he or she is learning at school? We implore you to communicate regularly with your child about what is going on in the classroom. Here are some ideas to help engage your child in school discussions.

    • Ask your child if he/she understands the learning expectations in school.
    • Ask your child to explain lessons they have learned and to provide you examples on how those lessons relate to every day life.
    • Ask your child what type of assessments they are taking in school.
    • Ask your child what adult advocate they have at school who they could depend on and trust. Who is that adult? How do they help your child? What does he/she do to help your child feel safe and encouraged?

Learning Foundation and Performing Arts and Learning Foundation Policy:

Cell Phones, Voice Recorders and Electronic Devices:
Students are encouraged to leave all electronic devices of any type at home.
Students are not allowed to have cell phones, pagers, laser pointers or any type of electronic device or sound reproducing equipment, including voice recorder watches or wristbands, on any Learning Foundation school grounds or transportation vehicles. (Recording conversations without consent is a violation of Arizona wiretapping law A.R.S. 13-3005)
Students are strongly encouraged to leave phones and devices at home. When entering the school students may check (leave) any phones or devices they bring at the front office before school and check them out at the end of the school day.
Cell phones or any other devices that are visible or can be heard making noise within campus boundaries or in school vehicles will be confiscated by LFPA staff and a disciplinary referral form will be completed and sent to the principal/site director. Violations will be subject to the following consequences:
• First offense: Phone or device will be confiscated and released to the student at the end of the school day.
• Second offense: Phone or device will be confiscated and released to the parent at the end of the school day.
• Third offense: Phone or device will be confiscated and sent to the district office. The parent or legal guardian must pick up the phone or device at the district office location in Gilbert.
• Fourth offense: Students who continue to violate this policy face further consequences including phone or device held until the end of the school year and possible suspension.

The District, Schools, and Employees are not responsible for lost or stolen electronic devices.
