Biography:

My name is Jan Schmidgall.  I am very excited to be at LFPA’s Gilbert campus for the 2014-2015 school year.  I will be teaching 7th grade history this year.  This is my 33rd year of teaching.  I tried retirement but it was not for me and I am back to my passion, history!  I graduated from Arizona State University with my degree in education.  I received my Master’s degree in Educational Curriculum and Planning from Northern Arizona University.  I am highly qualified in Arizona to teach history.  In my spare time I love traveling and snow skiing.  I especially love traveling to places that have historical meaning.  I believe history can come alive for the students and I strive to inspire them to dig deeper and find the “back story” on all of the people and places we discuss.  I love to see my students discover connections between the past and their lives today.  I believe we are lifelong learners and I encourage my students to find the value in learning something new each day.
